Better blocking carried Costa Rica over Mexico

COLIMA, Mexico, June 23, 2007.- The more consistent blocking was the key in the five-set victory of Costa Rica over Mexico in the last match of Saturday in the Women’s Pan American Cup. The score was 25-15, 15-25, 22-25, 26-24, 16-14.

The Costa Ricans outscored their opponents 19-4 in that category with Angela Willis (7) and Paola Ramirez (4) leading the way.

Verania Willis was the top scorer of Costa Rica with 21 points, Karen Charles and Angela Willis had 15 apiece and Ramirez added 14. Mexicans Martha Revuelta and Migdalel Ruiz had 23 and 20 respectively.

“We knew it was going to be a very tough match playing Mexico at home, but we tried our best and with a lot of desire we got the win,” said Verania Willis. “It was difficult to come back from behind 1-2, and take the next two the way we did it.”
